About Kyle Colley
Trains
I was born on July 27, 1999 in Durango, Colorado. From a very young age, I was always intrigued with the mighty steam locomotive. I grew up not far from the train station in Durango. My parents met on the train, so you could say that I owe my whole existence to the railroad. After birth, my mother quit working on the train, but my dad is still working there today. I would soon follow in his path of railroading. I began volunteering for the railroad when I was 10 as a special event helper, which mainly consisted of being an elf for the Polar Express, of which my name was Elfis Presley. After, I became a volunteer ambassador for the railroad, in which my duties consisted of standing on the platform in mornings and assisting passengers find their car and seat number, as well as answer any questions that came up. These past years spent at the railroad have been just the most fun of my entire life. In 2014, I got my first paycheck from the railroad after I was promoted from Head Elf (which is a very funny title) to Chef on the Polar Express. By this time, I, along with my cousin Jonathan Smith, became a major help in the Special Events Department of the railroad. We helped to plan, set up, run, choreograph, and take down many events at the railroad. We also coached new Event coordinators (of which we have gone through 5 so far since I've started working) because Jonathan and I had a great sense of what all of the events were about.
Music
Music has played a major part in my life. My optimal career choice would be a musician. I started playing guitar when I was 8 years old, and I have stuck with it since. However, I have also in that course of time picked up banjo, Dobro, bass (both upright and electric), drums, mandolin, and a little piano. A few years after I started playing guitar, I had my first real musical outlet when a good friend of mine, Drew Allsopp, called me up and asked if I was interested in playing some music with him. Of course, I jumped right on the opportunity.
